A 65-year-old COVID-19 patient from Shopian district died ata hospital in Srinagar on Tuesday, taking the fatality count due to the pathogento 191 in Jammu and Kashmir.

Confirming the death, Dr Shifa Deva, Medical SuperintendentSher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Bemina, one of theexclusive facilities for the management of the COVID-19 patients, told a localnews agency, Global News Service (GNS) that the sexagenarian man was admittedto the hospital on 10 July.

 “He already hadCoronary bypass surgery and was also suffering from pneumonia,” she added. “Hedied today.”

Earlier, a 47-year-old agriculture officer from Jammu’sTalab Tillo died at Government Medical College Jammu, two days after he testedpositive for the COVID-19.

Principal GMC Jammu Dr Nasib Chand Digra told GNS that theman was admitted to the hospital on July 12 and was put on a ventilator lastnight. “He died (at 7: 40 a.m.) today,” he said.

A senior doctor at GMC Jammu told GNS that the 47-year-old,Agriculture Officer at Directorate of Agriculture Talab Tillo Jammu, wassuffering from bilateral community-acquired pneumonia (CAP), Acute RespiratoryDistress Syndrome (ARDS) and hypertension.

“He had high-grade fever and cough. He remained on oxygensince the time of admission,” the doctor added.

Srinagar district with 46 deaths has the highest fatalitiesfollowed by Baramulla (36), Kulgam (21), Shopian (17), Anantnag (14), Budgam(14), eleven each in Jammu and Kupwara, Pulwama (6), Bandipora (3), Ganderbal(4) and Doda (2) while one death each has been reported from Poonch, Udhampur,Rajouri and Kathua
